Well, it's official: I'm no longer a newlywed! Earlier this month, my husband (I never get tired of saying that!) and I celebrated our first anniversary. The first year anniversary is the traditionally the 'paper' year so we stuck to that theme for presents. I got him a book about road trips- one of our favorite things to do together- but his gift blew mine out of the water. He bought a pair of tickets to the OK Go show at the House of Blues last weekend!
OK Go is absolutely my favorite band. I was lucky enough to interview the bass player Tim Nordwind for Gozamos, the online magazine I write and edit for, and was thrilled and humbled talking to him. In the introduction, I wrote about my love for them saying*, "OK Go made me love music in a way that I never had before. Oh No (the band’s second album) was the first CD I bought in over a decade. It spoke to me in a way that felt like falling in love. I am still utterly convinced that the first track off the album, Invincible, was written with me in mind. It remains the unblemished, most perfect song I’ve ever heard. I consider it my theme song and any time I need to feel ten feet tall, I listen to it over and over and over again until I’m ready to take on the world."It's totally true.
You can imagine how excited I was to see them live and, you guys, the concert was amazing! It was first-trip-to-Disney-World awesome. I was like one of those sugar-high little kids wearing a Cinderella dress who sees Mickey Mouse for the first time. Awestruck.
1) Several uses of a confetti canon- who doesn't love confetti!?
2) Damien Kulash came down into the audience to sing 'Last Leaf' and- ohmigod!- look how close we were!
3) Invincible. Natch.
4) Awesome light up jackets and laser guitars
5) A rendition of 'What to Do' with hand bells- that's what love sounds like.
I know it's kind of hard to hear them in the video since the girls who are filming it are singing along but- come on- can you blame them?
*I know it's totally weird that I'm quoting myself. How meta of me, right?
